So you've just found your CALL device and you're not quite ready to see what hitting the [TRANSPORT] button does. Instead, you start looking around on the messaging apps to see who you can talk to: the HERO Network for heroes, the CAD network for villains, and the CALL network if curious to see who might answer. Need advice? Want to see what other people feel about an issue? Go for it...



CITY OF NIGHTMARE

So you actually hit that [TRANSPORT] button and while you can't say that the City of Tomorrow where you started at isn't neat and all but there's just so much to explore. But as you make your way across the bridge, a sudden rainstorm begins. Through the gloom and the lightning, you can make out a single building in the distance. It's not particularly welcoming, of course, but it does at least look dry and reasonably sturdy. What could go wrong here? Hopefully, someone in there has an idea of when the rain might stop. Or... someone will come soon?



CITY OF ROMANCE

It is a singularly beautiful night out in the City of Romance, even more singularly beautiful than most of the nights there, which are usually pretty nice. The sky is clear and dark, and it's just the right temperature out for a late picnic or a night of stargazing. It appears that some enterprising soul has put out a number of blankets in the park, though there are a limited number of them so you may have to share...



CITY OF ADVENTURE

You've been in the wilds of the City here for the last few hours. Hot, sweaty, and more than a little uncomfortable given the number of mosquito, you would almost think that someone heard your silent prayers as you come through the trees and spy the most amazing looking waterfall. Obviously, you've learned that many things are not as they seem in this City and that the beautiful can hide all manner of mysteries... but damn if that pool doesn't look like it'd feel amazing to dive into.

So here's a hypothetical question that I'm posing to everyone here, and I do mean everyone, though if you happen to know me then you're not part of 'everyone' and that is... how do you tell when someone's worth dating? What do you see as the most important qualifications for that position? And how important is it for that person to be someone you're looking to, say, settle with for, you know, a WHILE vs just someone to have fun with and hang around with and all that? So basically, I'm just asking how you think relationships ought to work, really, as long as you're not actually someone I know.

I'm glad to see that Skulduggery's manners haven't rubbed off on you. Or, to be exact, his lack of manners. [The voice comes from behind her; perhaps slightly creepy if it wasn't so familiar. Erskine Ravel stands with his hands in his pockets, grinning at her. He's also completely dry, a dome of water floating over his head like an umbrella.]

I saw a creepy house. So I was sure that I'd find someone I know close by.

[When Harry hits the [TRANSPORT] to the City of Nightmare, he isn't sure what to expect, precisely. Gnarled ruins, dead trees, shadows constantly flitting out of the corner of your eye... that sounds about right. What he actually gets isn't too far off. Seeking to escape the dark and the rain, Harry bolts (without actually making it seem like he's bolting) for the nearest building: the Kingsport University.]

A school. Great. This is a nightmare, [he complains with a roll of his eyes, but he keeps venturing in anyway. In fact, he's not too far into the depth of the university when his attention seems to be snared by a particularly imposing gargoyle statue.

Just looking at it makes the hair on the back of his neck stands on end, his shoulders tense in some nebulous feeling of fear... And yet he seems rooted in place. Staring.]

It's almost like it could reach out and grab me any second. Ugh...

[It'd taken him a few days to make his way to this particular portion of the City and he had to admit: he got enough Adventure back home. But the place looked like every pulp novel he'd ever read, beautiful and green and full of mystery and wonder. That's why he'd ended up picking up a backpack at the Outpost and going on an impromptu camping trip. And it'd been a bit of a trip, no lie, but then he'd found the waterfall and...

Oh yes, he'd needed this. He wasn't sure how long he'd been paddling around in the pool beneath it but he was probably going to end up making camp here.]

Three days ago, this had been a brilliant idea. Kantos had been so excited at the prospect of her going on an actual holiday, he'd practically shoved her at the CALL device.

But that was three days ago, and now she was well and truly lost. And covered in mud. And in typical fashion, the largest, angriest serpent in the entire district had decided that she looked like lunch.

Her sword barely seems to make a dent in the glittering, emerald hide of the beast, and its teeth slash, drawing fresh blue blood. Her boots slip in the river bank's slippery muck and she tumbles out of reach.

Sweet Issus, now she has mud in her hair. Now you're in for it Mister Uncategorized Reptile of Unknown Origin.

Okay, has anyone had any luck jailbreaking this thing? Or even figuring out what language it's written in? Because so far, I'm hitting a wall.

[ Of course this is where she went. Of course. Because the second she'd seen the word transport, she'd hit that button. And of course, the City of Tomorrow was cool, no lie, she'd never say different, but why stay down there when there was a Satellite full of awesome alien vendors and traders and diplomats and restaurants?

Being a wizard had expanded her idea of 'cool' somewhat.

At the moment, she's at the super advanced equivalent of a food court, sipping on some sort of smoothie beverage that she literally can't describe the taste of without using the Speech. Smoothie in hand, completely normal fries on the table with a couple of dipping sauces, and Spot, of course. She's looking through to see if there are any mentions of this: the Seven-fold City, the CALL devices, some of the alien species she sees wandering around. She's also trying to see if she can possibly build an app to be used on the device, but so far, no go.

No headphones, though, and she's kind of people watching in between bits of programmer brain. Feel free to say hi. ]

( so scott has a trigger-happy issue with new buttons to press that he knows nothing about, sue him. he presses the transport button once and he's in a pretty city, presses it again and ends up in... well. somewhere pretty damn nature-y and hot enough he feels he could pass out any minute. mostly he thinks maybe he should just poke the button until he gets back home; he found out what he wanted to find out, so now all he has to do is head to hank and ask him to help figure out the device in his hands. there's absolutely no need to stay any longer--

or at least that's what he thinks until he sees the waterfalls.

now, scott isn't someone who's travelled a lot, and he's sure he's never actually seen a real life waterfall in the flesh. it's amazing, one way or the other. it's one of those things he should be taking a picture of for any future postcards or maybe even christmas cards ("merry christmas and happy holidays! here's santa's favourite slide. love, scott"). but more than amazing, it's freaking cool. )

You're so loud! ( because, yeah, the first thing anyone in their right mind would do is shout at running water (but to his credit, it is really loud). scott laughs. ) Wow, talk about fancy...

Okay. Alternate universes. Guess that isn't really any stranger than alternate timelines.

You all have Earth where you're from, right?

You'd think, being from Vancouver, that Kiera would be used to rain — and she is. But there's rain and then there's this torrential downpour that soaks right through her clothes and into the nanofiber material of her CPS suit underneath. Water's not going to hurt it, but that doesn't make it any less uncomfortable, and soon enough she's scouting for somewhere to take cover.

The cabin, when she comes upon it, is locked, but a couple seconds with her multitool fixes that, and she pushes the door open cautiously. Inside it's dark — but she knows from experience that that doesn't mean she's alone. Better to be paranoid than dead. Kiera keeps one hand on her service pistol tucked under her jacket, pushing the door shut behind her and switching her optics over to night vision for good measure.

There's a noise, from somewhere around a corner where she can't quite see, and reflexively her hand tightens on her gun, ready to draw it in a second if she needs to.

"Hello?"

It might be someone friendly — or it might just as easily not be.

[ He'd landed originally in the City of Tomorrow and that, well, it'd fulfilled every geeky fantasy he'd ever had and made him supremely sad that he couldn't show this wonder to the people back home. But it's no surprise that he ended up in the City of Shadows. Whatever else he is or wishes to be, he's still an incubus. He's still a creature of the darkness. And the feel of eyes on him, some of them interested and some of them itching for violence? That feels much more like home.

His attention gets pulled from his own thoughts to the hub-bub going on in what looks like some sort of square. Getting closer, he hears about what appears to be the announcement of a new wing on--

Innsmouth? An asylum named after Innsmouth? Why in the world would you ever want to reference Lovecraft when it came to people's sanity? Which is why his ]

The place felt like home, and that in and of itself was amazing, especially since it called itself a city. This wasn't a city - this was...

This was beautiful.

Closing his eyes, Merrick inhaled the heat and the air and the scents of all of the world around him, and it settled into his veins like a balm. The smile that came to him was a sight seldom seen, and one he tended to keep to himself.

And then, the waterfall.

Merrick barely hesitated. He pulled off his shirt and boots, tucked a few items into his duffel bag, and dove in. He'd been lightly sweating, but the water sluiced all of that away, leaving him feeling refreshed and even happier, if that was possible. Maybe the Spirits had brought this place to him. He'd thank them, no matter what.

( ivy enters the house because she heard someone scream, or perhaps shout. she is, perhaps surprisingly to anyone who does not know the wealth of magic she possesses, dry — and unafraid, despite the absence of her bodyguard.

anyone already inside the house will find themselves faced with a young girl in a red dress, blonde hair in braids, looking a little curious. her voice carris a faint british accent: ) Are you all right?

[ The girl who comes limping down the stairs with dust in her hair and an obvious foul mood was most probably the source of the scream. She's roughly 17, with long dark hair and dark eyes and her clothes are all black, but in a way that doesn't seem to reflect any light at all. She sighs, just a little, and tries to straighten out, wincing as she steps with her right foot. Her voice, when she speaks, has a distinct Irish accent. ]

I'm all right. Sorry for the noise. I was, er, well, investigating [ it sounded so silly when she said it without Skulduggery around ] and some of the lot from the closet fell on my head. Startled me.
