NETWORK

So you've just found your CALL device and you're not quite ready to see what hitting the [TRANSPORT] button does. Instead, you start looking around on the messaging apps to see who you can talk to: the HERO Network for heroes, the CAD network for villains, and the CALL network if curious to see who might answer. Need advice? Want to see what other people feel about an issue? Go for it...

CITY OF NIGHTMARE

So you actually hit that [TRANSPORT] button and while you can't say that the City of Tomorrow where you started at isn't neat and all but there's just so much to explore. But as you make your way across the bridge, a sudden rainstorm begins. Through the gloom and the lightning, you can make out a single building in the distance. It's not particularly welcoming, of course, but it does at least look dry and reasonably sturdy. What could go wrong here? Hopefully, someone in there has an idea of when the rain might stop. Or... someone will come soon?

CITY OF ROMANCE

It is a singularly beautiful night out in the City of Romance, even more singularly beautiful than most of the nights there, which are usually pretty nice. The sky is clear and dark, and it's just the right temperature out for a late picnic or a night of stargazing. It appears that some enterprising soul has put out a number of blankets in the park, though there are a limited number of them so you may have to share...

CITY OF ADVENTURE

You've been in the wilds of the City here for the last few hours. Hot, sweaty, and more than a little uncomfortable given the number of mosquito, you would almost think that someone heard your silent prayers as you come through the trees and spy the most amazing looking waterfall. Obviously, you've learned that many things are not as they seem in this City and that the beautiful can hide all manner of mysteries... but damn if that pool doesn't look like it'd feel amazing to dive into.

WILDCARD!

Go wherever your heart leads you!

So here's a hypothetical question that I'm posing to everyone here, and I do mean everyone, though if you happen to know me then you're not part of 'everyone' and that is... how do you tell when someone's worth dating? What do you see as the most important qualifications for that position? And how important is it for that person to be someone you're looking to, say, settle with for, you know, a WHILE vs just someone to have fun with and hang around with and all that? So basically, I'm just asking how you think relationships ought to work, really, as long as you're not actually someone I know.

City of Nightmare

[...she can smell the creep off the house as soon as she sees it, though it isn't so much 'smell' as it is feel and the feel is just off, but it's about as off as everywhere else in this damn place which actually manages to out-unpleasant Roarhaven, which is a feat in and of itself. But it's raining and she's wet and she's starting to get miserable about it so towards the house she goes, reaching out a hand to knock on the door.]

Hello? Anyone in there? Axe murderers and the like ought to know that I'm armed.

[ She had two of them, as a matter of fact. ]

And plenty dangerous.

[ That much was true. ]

But mostly I'm getting annoyed because it's wet out of here and I'd like to come in, please. Sooner rather than later?

I'm glad to see that Skulduggery's manners haven't rubbed off on you. Or, to be exact, his lack of manners. [The voice comes from behind her; perhaps slightly creepy if it wasn't so familiar. Erskine Ravel stands with his hands in his pockets, grinning at her. He's also completely dry, a dome of water floating over his head like an umbrella.]

I saw a creepy house. So I was sure that I'd find someone I know close by.
literally_raising: (riiiiiight)

[personal profile] literally_raising 2016-05-01 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
[ She's pretty sure that if it was anyone BUT Erskine Ravel behind her, with his oversmooth voice and his comforting manner, she would have jumped at least three feet into the air in a way that would have left her in a foul mood for whole minutes. As it was, she just had a slight twitch of her shoulders before she turned and gave him a rather flabbergasted look. ]

What in the world are you doing here, exactly?

[ She couldn't helpo it. She was looking for his hands, looking for a phone case or some such to find his CALL device. Which, really, was a bit ridiculous since he was here. He couldn't be here without one, which was what the lady at the big tower in the City of Tomorrow'd said. But how hadn't she found him on the network already? Her username wasn't exactly subtle. Then again, she had specified she didn't want to hear from people she knew. He was probably just being polite.

All the same, she threw up a dome of her own. Why was it that she forgot about magic at the silliest of times, especially when she wasn't with Skulduggery?]

I mean--

Not that I mind you being here, that is, but I didn't expect to see anyone like you here. Though I suppose I should, considering this crazy place.

[ Wait, what'd he said? ]

...were you looking for anyone particular in the creepy house or did we just cross paths through chance?
golden_eyes: (Default)

[personal profile] golden_eyes 2016-05-01 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
[He strolls over, extending a little magic to make sure her dome was holding steady. Though gently so she wouldn't notice; Valkyrie was better at accepting help than most of his friends but that was saying very little.

He gives her a sly smile.]

What? Can't a man take a little break every now and then. I finally found someplace Tipstaff can't find me. Don't ruin it. Though I don't know what you mean by 'anyone like you'. It's the robes, isn't it. I have transformed into a stodgy elder in your eyes, unable to appreciate a little adventure.

[He laughs.] No, I was just exploring. But then I felt something creepy and whenever there's creepiness afoot there's sure to be someone who automatically goes towards it.
literally_raising: http://asylums.insanejournal.com/blevcons/124193.html (how about you stop underestimating me?)

[personal profile] literally_raising 2016-05-01 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
Of course, your Royal High Eminence, sir. Though I'm pretty sure you can do whatever you like, what with you being the Grand Mage and all.

[ Was she smirking just a little? No, of course she wasn't. She definitely wasn't teasing him a little. How could she? He was the Grand Mage, after all. What kind of disrespectful young woman did he take her for? ]

But I won't say anything. It can just be our little secret.

[ Which turned her attention back to the house. ]

Though I wouldn't say I went right for it or anything. I just wanted to dry off, after all. Then it just seemed, I don't know... worth exploring?

[ A faint grin back at him. ]

Especially with such esteemed backup.
golden_eyes: (smile2)

[personal profile] golden_eyes 2016-05-01 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
And you better remember it. I'm pretty sure the Grand Mage can order that any disrespectful detectives should be thrown in the dungeon and forced to read etiquette manuals.

[He can't quite hold a look of stiff disapproval, though he makes an effort for a few seconds. Then he grins again; he looks much less haired than he has lately, more like the man she first met before the responsibility of leadership fell on his shoulders.]

Not consciously, but you have a knack for finding trouble. I hear that's what makes you good at your job. [He bows and then straightens, snapping up a small ball of fire.] Backup to you? The honor's all mine.
literally_raising: http://asylums.insanejournal.com/blevcons/124193.html (so about that monster...)

[personal profile] literally_raising 2016-05-01 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
[ The look she levels at him isn't quite the sort that said 'try me' when it came to that dungeon throwing bit, because she'd been in a dungeon or two and didn't like them, but it did at least promise that 1. she'd get out and 2. he might not have much of a dungeon left when he did. Then her expression shifted, since the much more important matter of a good compliment was tossed her way. ]

Skulduggery'd say that finding the trouble is what makes me such a good nuisance. The good job is sorting it out.

[ But, her tone added, he wasn't here. And there was a creepy house to investigate with her wielding the combined powers of the elements and a touch or two of necromancy with the Grand Mage of Ireland behind her. She'd been in much more daunting situations. ]

All right, on the count of three, I'm going to try and open the door.
golden_eyes: (smile2)

[personal profile] golden_eyes 2016-05-01 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
That's because Skulduggery can be something of a hypocrite. [If anyone had a talent for finding trouble, he did.] It's one of his many charms.

If there's any trouble, I feel confident in your ability to sort it out. I'll just stand back and let you protect me.

Is "she makes me happy" too sappy for an answer?
literally_raising: http://asylums.insanejournal.com/blevcons/124193.html (so about that monster...)

[personal profile] literally_raising 2016-05-01 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
No.

It's actually a really good answer.

What kind of happy, though?
literally_raising: (riiiiiight)

[personal profile] literally_raising 2016-05-01 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Everyone can be something of a hypocrite. At least, it seems like, everyone I know.

[ A snap of her own fingers, though she's using it mostly for light. It's harder for someone to knock a fireball out of your hands than it is for them to kick your cellphone away, after all.

And she opens the door to--

Nothing, seems like. A living room. A little dusty, a little spooky with the lightning and all. But... nothing's jumping out right that moment. And she doesn't see anything moving other than the light. There aren't any on and there's clearly no electricity but... ]

Let's just pretend I didn't just think 'could be worse' and stroll on in, hmm?

[personal profile] dragonring 2016-05-01 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
The "she makes me a better guy" kind of happy? The "a simple text makes a crappy day look good" kind of happy.
literally_raising: (that cannot be a thing)

It's one of those problems that comes with living for such a long time. Not that mortals aren't good at it.

[He takes in the room in a glance. He can't pick up clues in a look but he can assess danger just as quickly as Skulduggery.]

Well, there could be bodies strew about. But you'd be able to feel that, right?

[personal profile] dragonring 2016-05-01 05:11 pm (UTC)(link)
She takes me out of my shell and... this is getting a little too personal.
literally_raising: (seriously?)

[personal profile] literally_raising 2016-05-01 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, yeah, it started personal. Thought that was pretty clear.
literally_raising: (huh)

[personal profile] literally_raising 2016-05-01 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[ That gets a swift nod, but her ring is only as cold as it usually is. If anything it's... warm? Maybe? Something. That might just be her fingers being cold from the rain. ]

No bodies. At least not close. I mean, theoretically, there shouldn't be any bodies. You can have a creepy old house and no one's dead in it.

Right?
golden_eyes: (Default)

[personal profile] golden_eyes 2016-05-01 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Rare, but I believe it's not completely impossible.

[He lets go of his fireball, Valkyrie is producing enough light and spreads out his fingers to feel the air. Not necessary, of course, but he was enjoying himself and that tended to add a flair of the dramatic to his actions.]

No one's moving about. At least not in range. Not a lot of dust, though.
literally_raising: http://asylums.insanejournal.com/blevcons/124193.html (how about you stop underestimating me?)

[personal profile] literally_raising 2016-05-01 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Snort. It's like Skulduggery was, well, dead and with them. ]

I'm a big fan of defying expectations. Especially when it involves less dead people.

[ The dust comment, though, that gets her attention. She takes a moment to find a lamp that seems to be one of the old oil types, easier to identify after a few years dealing with sorcerers who like old things, and the flame pops in there easily enough. That frees her up to put her attention elsewhere. ]

What do you think that means?

The lack of dust. You think we're trespassing?

[ There was a time when that would have worried her. That time is well past. ]
golden_eyes: (smile2)

[personal profile] golden_eyes 2016-05-01 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
[Breaking and entering strange houses with possible danger lurking within. Usually he doesn't get into this sort of situations without Skulduggery being somewhere nearby. Adventure and mystery, he's always preferred the former but it's been too long since he had either.

He shrugs, grinning.]
Not a clue. That's why I hang around with detective types, so they can find the clues.

Though we did just walk into a house, there's a pretty good chance that we're trespassing. On the other hand, the door was open so if people live here, maybe they're the warm and welcoming type who like to give succor to strangers.

[personal profile] dragonring 2016-05-01 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought it started hypothetical? You should follow your feelings. Those are kinda hard to put into words.
literally_raising: (that cannot be a thing)

[personal profile] literally_raising 2016-05-01 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
It started hypothetical only if you're thick enough not to read between the lines and I've got the feeling you're not that thick if you're on here.

So.

Feelings are really not the best thing for me to follow. Because that's how the whole thing turned into a mess in the first place.

[personal profile] dragonring 2016-05-01 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
...I was being sarcastic.

Soooo you have a mess. IDK apologize? Feelings are a big part of relationships.
literally_raising: (whut is this nonsense?)

[personal profile] literally_raising 2016-05-02 03:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, that's the problem. I DID. And I can't even be mad at him because I was awful but I kind of am because he won't forgive me and come back and be my friend even if that's totally fair.

Feelings are dumb and terrible.

( hal did not expect to end up here. he didn't expect to end up anywhere, really, but then the damn green lantern business really should have taught him not to play with inanimate objects anyone pushes at him.

maybe he's just kind of a slow learner. that must be it.

at any rate: here he is, sitting on a blanket and looking at the stars, feeling kind of romantically inclined. okay, no, he's not romantically inclined. he's as close to romantically inclined as he'll ever get.

he's got a bit of a boner, so what? don't judge him, he was just imagining -- well, you probably don't want to know. )
