NETWORK

So you've just found your CALL device and you're not quite ready to see what hitting the [TRANSPORT] button does. Instead, you start looking around on the messaging apps to see who you can talk to: the HERO Network for heroes, the CAD network for villains, and the CALL network if curious to see who might answer. Need advice? Want to see what other people feel about an issue? Go for it...

CITY OF NIGHTMARE

So you actually hit that [TRANSPORT] button and while you can't say that the City of Tomorrow where you started at isn't neat and all but there's just so much to explore. But as you make your way across the bridge, a sudden rainstorm begins. Through the gloom and the lightning, you can make out a single building in the distance. It's not particularly welcoming, of course, but it does at least look dry and reasonably sturdy. What could go wrong here? Hopefully, someone in there has an idea of when the rain might stop. Or... someone will come soon?

CITY OF ROMANCE

It is a singularly beautiful night out in the City of Romance, even more singularly beautiful than most of the nights there, which are usually pretty nice. The sky is clear and dark, and it's just the right temperature out for a late picnic or a night of stargazing. It appears that some enterprising soul has put out a number of blankets in the park, though there are a limited number of them so you may have to share...

CITY OF ADVENTURE

You've been in the wilds of the City here for the last few hours. Hot, sweaty, and more than a little uncomfortable given the number of mosquito, you would almost think that someone heard your silent prayers as you come through the trees and spy the most amazing looking waterfall. Obviously, you've learned that many things are not as they seem in this City and that the beautiful can hide all manner of mysteries... but damn if that pool doesn't look like it'd feel amazing to dive into.

WILDCARD!

Go wherever your heart leads you!

My thoughts exactly. Too bad they won't team up.

[ Huh. Interesting interpretation. ]

They hurt other people. Or they will, if I don't figure them out.

[ He taps his temple. ]

It happens up here, and usually I've got about a week to figure out what's going to happen to try and stop it. Every time I sleep. Usually I get more details.

If I get a new dream, it means I failed.
goblinjr: (➥ What do you mean "incredible"?)

[personal profile] goblinjr 2016-05-09 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
They won't even enlighten you on the code it uses? It's gotta be something unique to this world if it's that big of a deal.

"Got it," and then he's saving his breath for running, pouring on the speed as best he can given that he has a destination in mind now. More importantly, his mind is going through vectors, force and speed and possibilities and how to get her up into the tree house and out of danger quickly.

He's almost there when he looks down at her.

"Don't panic. I'll be up soon."

Which is when he pushes down, springing his momentum into his arms to toss her up and over the edge to land at the front of the tree house. Then he's running again, one arm reaching back to pull his shield out. Because if he isn't going to put her right back into danger, he was going to have to take this thing out and quick. They'd already called enough attention to themselves.

She's been a warrior long enough to roll with the punches, but being thrown is an entirely different proposition. Still, she conserves her momentum, keeps her chin tucked and rolls as best she can. It still hurts, but she refuses to lose consciousness. She grabs for her sword.

And slaps the empty sheathe on her thigh. "Mother of us all," she curses.

Below, Steve finds himself surrounded in the half gloom. Under the canopy, sunlight struggles to reach the forest floor and the predators that hunt here use that to their advantage. Seven, no eight pairs of gold eyes stare back at him from the underbrush, their near silent pacing accompanied by quiet growls. They're still sizing him up.
justakidfrombrklyn: http://hollow-art.com (head of the pack)

[personal profile] justakidfrombrklyn 2016-05-09 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
Steve isn't sure how well this is going to go but when it comes right down to it, he knows it's not going to be fun. Mostly, he's waiting for the first movement, the first strike. He knows that as soon as one jumps, they're all going to go at it and he knows he's going to have to be fast.

That's why he decides to go on the offensive. The shield goes flying out and the fight begins with a yowl and a bounce and Steve leaping up above half a dozen pouncing wolves to grab his returning shield and go barreling down metal first into the fray.
dejah_thoris: (why won't you listen)

[personal profile] dejah_thoris 2016-05-09 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
They're fast as lightning, but he teaches them to respect that shield very quickly. Or at least one of them. The alpha falls back to watch, letting the lesser pack wear him down.

Sharp canines leave their mark on him through his tshirt, and thank heavens he's wearing combat boots or they would have sliced him down at the ankles. There's a blur of mud and fur and blood, flashes of red and silver, howls and snarls and the sound of teeth clanging against metal.

Dejah listens, trying to track his location by the sound of the fight, but it's impossible. She drags herself to the edge of the platform and looks down.

"Behind you!"

[ (HERO) NETWORK : antsy ]

It said hero on the button so do I assume I'm talking to someone heroic? I'm not asking for secret identity names or anything, but it'd be pretty sweet if I was talking to someone of relative status on earth

Assuming you're from earth. I won't judge if you're from somewhere else! The universe is looking pretty big lately

Also there's a button that says TRANSPORT

I'm pretty sure they don't have that on the iPhone 10 or wherever we are now so what the heck is that

[ (CALL) NETWORK : s.lang1980 ]

Is this a messaging app for lonely people?

Asking for a friend

36/M/Single ?????

Likes long walks on the beach and the mellow jazz of Frank Sinatra

[ CITY OF ADVENTURE ]

( so scott has a trigger-happy issue with new buttons to press that he knows nothing about, sue him. he presses the transport button once and he's in a pretty city, presses it again and ends up in... well. somewhere pretty damn nature-y and hot enough he feels he could pass out any minute. mostly he thinks maybe he should just poke the button until he gets back home; he found out what he wanted to find out, so now all he has to do is head to hank and ask him to help figure out the device in his hands. there's absolutely no need to stay any longer--

or at least that's what he thinks until he sees the waterfalls.

now, scott isn't someone who's travelled a lot, and he's sure he's never actually seen a real life waterfall in the flesh. it's amazing, one way or the other. it's one of those things he should be taking a picture of for any future postcards or maybe even christmas cards ("merry christmas and happy holidays! here's santa's favourite slide. love, scott"). but more than amazing, it's freaking cool. )

You're so loud! ( because, yeah, the first thing anyone in their right mind would do is shout at running water (but to his credit, it is really loud). scott laughs. ) Wow, talk about fancy...

The [TRANSPORT] button transports you to a city in another dimension.

It's nicer than it sounds, honestly.

Nope. Though it seems to accept code written in the Speech all right. But that's no surprise. I should be able to design a few apps.

But it won't let me change anything about the firmware. Which is kind of amazing.

Not when they're not actually competing for the same demographic.

[personal profile] i_manual 2016-05-10 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
They're still competing for customers, though. That just means that they divide into demographics, which serves people's needs better.

If there was one, it might only serve smoothies and at a higher price. Instead, one lowers prices and the other one adds alcohol to attract the clients they want of the smoothie-drinking crowd.

[ She finally looks up from her computer. ]

Better.

Well, if you don't happen to have one of those flying around your world, then it won't be much of a problem, now, will it?

kiera cameron | continuum

( network [CALL] | un: cameron.k )
Okay. Alternate universes. Guess that isn't really any stranger than alternate timelines.

You all have Earth where you're from, right?

( city of nightmare )
You'd think, being from Vancouver, that Kiera would be used to rain — and she is. But there's rain and then there's this torrential downpour that soaks right through her clothes and into the nanofiber material of her CPS suit underneath. Water's not going to hurt it, but that doesn't make it any less uncomfortable, and soon enough she's scouting for somewhere to take cover.

The cabin, when she comes upon it, is locked, but a couple seconds with her multitool fixes that, and she pushes the door open cautiously. Inside it's dark — but she knows from experience that that doesn't mean she's alone. Better to be paranoid than dead. Kiera keeps one hand on her service pistol tucked under her jacket, pushing the door shut behind her and switching her optics over to night vision for good measure.

There's a noise, from somewhere around a corner where she can't quite see, and reflexively her hand tightens on her gun, ready to draw it in a second if she needs to.

"Hello?"

It might be someone friendly — or it might just as easily not be.

I'm not judging; I'm just wondering if he has any leads on the problem.

The first name is Steve, yes.

And I meant both, actually. No pain, just kind of a quick flash and then you're standing in something out of a pulp cover. They even call it the City of Tomorrow, though it's just part of a larger place.

Captain America! You're here!!!!!! Wow this is an honour... it'd be second only to meeting you in the flesh, I'm a big fan! It's nice to meet

Wow!

But uh my own devolution into a ten year old aside the city of tomorrow sounds like something out of a really old sci-fi movie. Is it pretty there? Does it look like home?

Any crazy futuristic things that they don't have on... where we come from?
justakidfrombrklyn: (more sarcastic than expected)

[personal profile] justakidfrombrklyn 2016-05-10 01:29 pm (UTC)(link)
That's what it looks like, though there's some pretty futuristic stuff around here too. There's flying cars, for one. A massive satellite above the city for another. I'd mention the robots and the aliens, but I do have teammates and that might be a little rude to some of them.

And I'm sure it'd be very nice to meet you too, 'Antman'.

I've heard some things about you.

Good things.
